Country Roads – Luke 14:23
‘Go out into the country roads and lanes and make people come in, so that my house will be full.’
The name for this candle came to me as I was walking one morning. Many of you know that every morning I walk on country roads…that might be better described as trails. But they definitely look like roads and for sure I am out in the country! Every day, rain or shine, I get up early and go for a walk, to talk to God and put my day in order. I wanted to name a candle to reflect (no pun intended) such an important part of my life.
And of course it’s important for me to have a scriptural basis for the name also. I was surprised to find this scripture in the Good News translation of the bible. On researching Luke 14:23, I found that even though popular translations refer to highways and hedges it actually means the roads and lanes in the country outside of the city. I love that the Goods News translation referenced country roads and lanes, but more specifically it refers to the people outside of the city gates…the poor and impoverished. There was a time (not so) long ago that I was one of those poor and impoverished people that lived outside of the gates of the kingdom of God. Today I can say, I’m very grateful to those that heeded His call to go out to those country roads and lanes and seek and invite those who were willing to come to His feast.
