Did you know that many candle companies not only use waxes that are potentially hazardous, but they also use fragrance oils that may contain ingredients that have the potential to harm your health?
In the past, fragrance companies haven’t been all that forthcoming about the chemical make-up of their products. In recent years that has begun to change due to consumer awareness and a demand for safer products. Now, fragrance manufacturers are required to label chemicals and disclose the potential of hazardous substances in their product.
We source fragrances only from companies that exclude all ingredients listed in California’s Proposition 65 warning list and any other similar ingredients. If they’re toxic in California, then they’re toxic here.
What types of chemicals are on the Proposition 65 list you may ask?
“The list contains a wide range of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals that are known to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm. These chemicals include additives or ingredients in pesticides, common household products, food, drugs, dyes, or solvents. Listed chemicals may also be used in manufacturing and construction, or they may be byproducts of chemical processes, such as motor vehicle exhaust.” (From the OEHHA website, California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazards Assessment).
